Book Review: The History of Indian Film Music
Jan 27th
Brilliant. In one word that’s the best way to describe ‘The History of Indian Film Music’ which indeed is a chronicle at it’s best. The book takes a reader through a musical journey right from the 30s till the end of 2009 and brilliantly captures all the relevant details that would satiate the appetite of a music lover. Did I just say ‘relevant’? That’s right. And this is where the essence of this compact 130 odd pages book lies. Putting together a book which is required to capture the musical journey of 80 years gone by is certainly not joke. More >
Subhash K. Jha speaks on Veer
Jan 23rd
Veer is one of those intended epics that go wrong. Horribly wrong. Director Anil Sharma had combined history and kitsch with compelling consequences on Gadar – Ek Prem Katha. In Veer, the khichdi of fact and fiction runs amok, creating a blend of babble and bloodshed that is more hysterical than historical. Veer wallows in primitive valour. Father Mithun Chakraborty (the only tolerable performance in the litany of the unbearable) and son Salman Khan often mock-fight, as the burly members of their tribe urge them on like animals in zestful zoo. Even Neena Gupta who plays Mithun’s wife (and has More >

Amongst the important dates in the history of Bollywood, there is one date which might not be written in gold in the history books, but his films never cease to create history at the Box-Office. And the date is 26 August, the date when the master filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar was born. After having hit the jackpot with films like Chandni Bar, Page 3, Satta, Corporate etc…, Madhur More >
Subhash K Jha speaks about Aladin
Oct 31st
Make a wish, make a wish….The Djinn, played by the indefatigable Amitabh Bachchan, is the tonic in this Indianized adaptation of Aladin’s arabesque adventures in blunderland. Once the Big B slams and hurls into the loser Aladin Chatterjee’s life things are never the same again. Aladin Chatterjee? That could well qualify as the most oxymoronic name-calling in the history of fantasy cinema. Writer-director Sujoy Ghosh has a sly sense of humour. He portrays the bullies and the fakes with great gusto. He brings up his favourite themes such as the music of R.D. Burman and the fears and foibles of More >

"I have learnt a lot from Harman" – Priyanka Chopra
Sep 24th
Download What’s Your Raashee? wallpapers If one goes down the memory lane, one can comfortably say that with What’s Your Raashee?, Priyanka Chopra may well be boasting of the biggest ever film written for a woman protagonist in the history of Indian cinema. After all, 80 years after legendary British actor Lupino Lane created a (yet unbroken) record for a male actor playing 24 roles in one single film, Only Me (1929), Priyanka Chopra is all set to emulate a similar feat when it comes to female actors. In What’s Your Raashee (2009), she plays 12 different roles and the More >
